* Reporting Africa, blog by blog:
Rachel Rawlins, managing editor of the Global Voices project, believes the Reuters move “demonstrates the increasing value placed by news organisations on the ability of authentic voices to provide perspective, background and context to the events they cover.”
* Reuters Looks to Africa and a Decentralized Future for Media:
The 155-year-old Reuters wire service has been reinventing itself for the modern age of decentralized journalism, where millions of people have the tools to capture the news around them. Reuters has made alliances and investments in blog aggregators Global Voices and Pluck, and with Yahoo for the citizen-submitted news site, You Witness News. Plus, Reuters made a high-profile move of putting a correspondent into the virtual world, Second Life.
* Reuters to launch African website:
The company’s partnership with GlobalVoices, the international network of bloggers coordinated through the Berkman Center at Harvard University, will see the publication of local blogs from across Africa.
* Reuters Africa: breaking new ground:
It is important in several ways. First, it demonstrates Reuters’ commitment to covering Africa not only as a general news story but also as a global business story - to an extent that I have not seen in other global English-language media.
* Reuters’ (and Global Voices’) new Africa coverage:
The inclusion of blog content on nearly every screen of the site is hugely significant for those of us involved with Global Voices. Reuters has been our largest fiscal sponsor over the past two years - we’ve been making the case that the information that comes from blogs can be a useful complement to the “hard news” reported by Reuters. The design of this site is a clear indication that Reuters Africa team “gets it”.
* World, meet Africa! A new way of reporting the continent:
That’s why today’s launch of a new website from global news organisation Reuters devoted exclusively to the continent - Reuters Africa - is so exciting. And most exciting of all is the inclusion of blogs on every individual country page on the site.
Sio upepo wa kupita, jamani!
